Growing egg packaging
A Greek designer introduced an eco-friendly egg packaging called Biopack. The design concept of this packaging is to follow the ecosystem and aim to reduce the impact on the environment. The appearance of Biopack seems ordinary, but in fact it is made from clean pulp, flour, starch and seeds of legumes. Each box can only contain four eggs. The uniqueness of Biopack lies in its post-use treatment. The user does not need to recycle it, but can directly bury the empty box in the soil and water it. After about six days, the bean vegetable seeds in the box will begin to germinate. After 30 days, these seeds will grow into a small pot plant. The designer chose the seeds of legumes because the rhizobia of legumes can fix free nitrogen in the atmosphere, thereby increasing the fertility of the soil. In addition, it is also a good natural fertilizer to wash the egg shell and crush it into a flowerpot.
The design of Biopack not only reduces the energy consumption of resource recovery, but also provides an intuitive environmental protection process so that users can see the results of environmental protection actions. Thanks to its innovative design concept, Biopack won the 2019 Young Balkan Designer Cycle Design Award. This design concept not only applies to egg packaging, but also provides inspiration for the environmentally friendly packaging of other products, thus promoting broader environmental practices.
