The subject of packaging science research
The science of packaging is the study of the natural and social functions of packaging, as well as the laws and methods to optimize integration. The natural function of packaging refers to its ability to effectively protect the quality and quantity of products, provide various conveniences for production, circulation, and consumption and bring material benefits to society. Its design and formation are influenced and guided by natural sciences such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and microbiology, well as various natural technological sciences. The social function of packaging refers to its ability to meet people's psychological needs, promote product sales, beautify the living environment and bring spiritual benefits to society. Its design and formation are influenced and guided by social sciences such as philosophy, political economy, psychology, culture, art, law and history, as well as various social technological sciences. The natural and social functions of packaging are unified in the packaging product or the object of product packaging. Their integration is marked by packaging that meets the requirements of "science, solidity, beauty, economy, and applicability," and is the prerequisite for achieving good economic and benefits. Therefore, exploring the laws and effective methods for the optimal combination of the natural and social functions of packaging is the central content of packaging science research
